Improper drainage

Current playground safety standards are unsafe

Playground flooding as a result of improper drainage can permanently damage or destroy the equipment and surfacing, and this is avoidable under most foreseeable circumstances commonly experienced due to seasonal weather changes. In many playgrounds that either didn't install suitable drainage or failed to make sure it was installed and functioning properly and become unusable due to flooding, unfortunately all the best intentions that went into creating it as a safe space for children to play fail in providing that objective. Failing to plan is a plan to fail.

While we can't plan on major infrequent weather conditions, unforeseen catastrophies or acts of God, there are a lot of things that can be done to make sure the best possibility exists to meet or exceed whatever drainage capacity is likely to be required. Seasonal weather and soil conditions play a direct role in the natural ability to absorb expected rainfall amounts. Slopes or other elevation changes surrounding a playground can affect the amount of run-off that may flow and accumulate, which also is a factor, in determing the best drainage method for your specific playground, whatever the size.

We cover some of the most common drainage options, as well as water vaults (where normal drainage methods are sometimes impossible, too difficult or costly), the selection of the best sub-base material, drainage planning and sub-base installation, to hopefully minimize the chances of this happening to your playground and effectively destroying it.
